While heated yoga is a relatively new way to practice, the use of heat for health is ancient. Ayurvedic steam treatments, Native American sweat lodge ceremonies, Mayan Temascals, Japanese Onsen, Turkish hammams, Russian Banya, Finnish Saunas…the list goes on. The healing and detoxifying power of heat has been utilised by almost every culture for centuries. .
When you attend one of our heated classes you’ll enter the studio and it will feel like you are on a warm beach!
We are not a Bikram Studio, traditionally Bikram yoga is practiced at 40 degrees with a humidity level of 40%.
We use a gentle heat at Yoga Tree Studios of anywhere between 26-32 degrees with a humidity level of 40%.
In our heated classes we use special far- infrared panels which create warm breathable air which is extremely therapeutic on the body.
The special far – infrared panels heat the body itself rather than the air in the room. This technology was developed by the medical industry specifically to penetrate deep within the tissues, muscles and bones. Practicing in the heat increases the flow of blood to the muscles and connective tissue which makes the body more responsive to stretches, which helps to improve flexibility. Warm muscles are generally less susceptible to injury, because they absorb shock and impact better than cold muscles.
We also have the luxury of cosy underfloor heating and our ventilation system ensures there is enough fresh oxygen entering the studio.
Practicing in the heat is very healing on the body it can help to speed up injury recovery and reduce symptoms of chronic pain and stiffness.
Other benefits of practicing in a heated room are:
Detoxification – as our body temperature rises and we begin to sweat we remove waste products such as carbon dioxide and lactic acid.
Weight loss – metabolism levels rise which speeds up the breakdown of glucose and fatty acids. Studies have also shown that a 60 minute far Infrared sauna session can burn upwards of 600 calories while you relax!
As the body works to cool itself, there is a substantial increase in heart rate, cardiac output and metabolic rate causing the body to burn more calories. So if you pair that with a class its a great combination to help assist with weight loss.
Skin purification – helps to purify your skin by eliminating toxins from your pores and increasing circulation resulting in clearer, healthier skin.

All of our instructors are highly qualified however they are not medically trained. If you are suffering from any heath issues you should always consult your doctor before attending ANY of our heated or non heated classes.
If you are pregnant, suffering from high blood pressure, diabetes or have a heart condition then unfortunately our heated classes will not be suitable for you.
